Hollenberg was founded in 1872 by Gerat Hollenberg, who also founded Hanover in 1869.  The original community well was located in the middle of the street in downtown Hollenberg for the community to use.  The Washington County State Fishing Lake is located west of Hollenberg. Hollenberg is the smallest incorporated City in Washington County with 10 residents.
